Long Gone Pioneer

DOL-A-1527

Back in the day they buried their kinfolk close to the homestead. Cemeteries were not common and the added expense for some was too much. Eventually they moved the remains to a cemetery.

A pensive, sobering sight.

I love old cemeteries- I don't quite understand- they removed the church- or the person buried inside the fence?

My great grandparents started a family cemetery back in the 1800s. Today it is a recognized cemetery in the county and is no longer exclusively for our family. I still feel proud, however, when I pass by and see our family name on the sign.
