Coastal Shore Birds

I just want to mention that our timing for leaving was impeccable.  It has been snowing and the air is frigid back home.

Perhaps you can enlighten a city boy like me: why are these "nonbreeding adults?" Are they sterile? What is the benefit of this?

I guess I didn't pick up the sign. I'm still here. There are many plumages we don't see as birds migrate.
