Leaves, Light and Colour

DOL-A-1106

Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love — that makes life and nature harmonize. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one’s very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a pefect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.
~George Eliot, letter to Miss Lewis, 1st October 1841

...I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house. So I have spent almost all the daylight hours in the open air.
~Nathaniel Hawthorne, 10th October 1842

Methinks I see the sunset light flooding the river valley, the western hills stretching to the horizon, overhung with trees gorgeous and glowing with the tints of autumn—a mighty flower garden, blossoming under the spell of the enchanter, Frost...
~John Greenleaf Whittier, "Pawtucket Falls"

Thought I'd let you all know I'm going in for knee surgery tomorrow morning.  Wish me luck. ;-)

Love the coupling of words and images. They strike a note with the poet hidden inside me.

Gorgeous images Daniel.

Hope you recover quickly although I'm sure it will be a bit before you can be out and about.

Is this knee replacement surgery? I had it done 3 years ago, and I am now more mobile and flexible than ever. Hope it goes well for you.
